In need of a weekend vacation? Maybe a mid-week getaway? Shores & Islands Ohio is here for you! This trip takes you all across the region, hitting a mixture of the well-known spots and the hidden treasures.
Arrival: Begin your getaway at A Place Like No Other™. Cedar Point offers fun for everyone with over 70 rides including the all-new Top Thrill 2, special festivals and events, dynamic live entertainment, and delicious dining options. When you’re ready to cool off, head to Cedar Point Shores Waterpark or Cedar Point Beach.
Evening: After a fun filled day, its time to check in to your accommodations and unwind. Tomorrow holds just as much excitement so sleep well.
Morning: Rise, shine, and step back in time at Milan’s town square. Learn more about Thomas Edison while visiting the Edison Birthplace Museum. Stroll around the square and do some shopping at places like Milan’s Inn-tiques, Crosby’s Antiques, and D’Vine Design.
Begin a lighthouse tour with a stop at Huron Lighthouse and Fishing Pier. On a clear day, Cedar Point can be seen from the shores.
Lunch: Venture to the newly renovated Sawmill Creek by Cedar Point Resorts and satisfy your taste buds at Mulligan’s Pub.
Afternoon: Check off the next lighthouse sighting on the trip at Vermilion Lighthouse. While in Vermilion, grab a scoop from Granny Joe’s Creamatorium or sweet treats at Brummer’s Chocolates. Relax at Main Street Beach or stroll through downtown and gather souvenirs from one of the many shops in the area.
Dinner: Depending on your group, grab dinner while still in Vermilion or wait until you’re back to Sandusky to eat. Both communities have a good variety of offerings to fit your needs.
Evening: Find your way to Jackson St. Pier to keep the good times going. Board the Goodtime I Lake Erie Island Cruises, to take part in one of their evening cruises or participate in one of the many events held at the Pier.
Morning: Wake up and venture to one of the most iconic places in the Shores & Islands region – Marblehead Lighthouse State Park. Enjoy stunning views of Lake Erie, Cedar Point, Sandusky Bay, and even across to Kelleys Island. While at the state park, visit the replica of the 1876 U.S. Lifesaving Station.
After visiting the lighthouse, take a little bit of time to enjoy downtown Marblehead with its unique shops.
Lunch: Grab a snack before leaving Marblehead or wait until you reach your next destination. The Veh Conference Room at Schedel Arboretum and Gardens can be set up so lunch from local caterer can be enjoyed with a beautiful view.
Afternoon: Continue to immerse yourself in nature’s beauty at Schedel Arboretum and Gardens. This 17-acre hidden treasure showcases more than five different types of gardens plus annual beds. It also is home to The Blair Museum of Lithophanes and rotating artwork.
When it is time to go, Schedel Arboretum and Gardens is located near I-80/I-90 (Ohio Turnpike), State Route 105, and State Route 51 which lead to bigger interstates to take you home.
